RCMP Prince Albert media release – On November 13, 2018, at approximately 7:30 a.m., Prince Albert RCMP were advised of a suspicious vehicle in the Murray Point area of Emma Lake. Local residents had observed a suspicious vehicle and blocked it from leaving while they awaited for police arrival.Lakeland District Protective Services and RCMP attended the scene. Police requested assistance from Provincial Response Team (PRT) partners which included officers from Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment Conservation Officers, Saskatchewan Highway Patrol and Lakeland Protective Services. RCMP Police Dog Services and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan from Prince Albert also attended to assist. The suspicious vehicle was contained and the sole occupant was taken into custody without incident.
Initial investigation has determined that there had been a break and enter to a storage compound in the vicinity. Stolen property from the storage compound was identified in the vehicle, including a firearm of unknown origin. Evidence located at the compound suggested that there were additional suspects involved in the incident.
Once all units were mobilized, a perimeter was set up to surround all access roads in the area as evidence suggested that the additional suspects had moved towards the Okimaw Beach area. While patrolling the Okimaw Beach area an additional cabin was located that had been broken into and that was where the firearm that was located in vehicle was determined to have been stolen from.
The PRT group patrolled and contained the area for approximately five hours and eventually three additional suspects were located in a wooded area on the 263 Highway near Tweedsmuir. The persons charged are as follows:
• Dustin NAYTOWHOW, 33 years old – charged with Break, Enter and Theft – Sec.348(1)(a) Criminal Code (CC)
