Gleichen RCMP Locate Stolen Vehicle and Charge Occupants

On Feb. 19, 2018, Gleichen RCMP were investigating a complaint of a stolen vehicle, originating out of Calgary. The Gleichen RCMP located the vehicle in Siksika Nation and activated the emergency lights, but the vehicle fled from Police.

The vehicle was located a short time later, abandoned and unoccupied. With the assistance of Police Dog Services (PDS) and the Bassano RCMP, two suspects were located and taken into custody. One individual sustained minor injuries and was treated medically for non-life threatening injuries.

An 18-year-old-male from Siksika Nation and a youth were arrested for numerous criminal code charges including Possession of Property obtained by crime, and Operation of a Motor Vehicle while pursued by police.

The Gleichen RCMP is working with the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) to continue the investigation. The SAD CRU is a newly formed unit which focuses on Crime Reduction strategies and targets repeat offenders in the Southern Alberta communities. This unit will assist General Duty members at detachments in hopes of reducing crime.
